Harbor Notebook
ABOUT THE NOTEBOOK

A place to practise looking.

Ordinary scenes offer plenty to notice. This notebook is a small collection of ideas for doing just that.

What you will find here

Each note considers one part of a photograph: the arrangement of shapes, the direction of light, a changing surface, or the way a group of pictures reads together. The exercises are intentionally simple and can be tried with any camera.

The illustrations were made for these pages. They explain visual relationships and do not document a journey, a particular location, or an event.

A quiet reading space

There are no accounts, comment forms, advertising scripts, tracking pixels, or embedded social feeds. Pages and illustrations are served directly by this website. Standard server access logs may record requests for operational purposes.

Text and illustrations are original to this notebook. All notes are freely readable here.
